Wayne Tree Lighting and Open House

Wayne Business Association will be holding an Old Fashioned Christmas Celebration.  There will be carolers strolling the streets of Wayne, winter carriage rides, face painting, and crafts for kids at the Radnor Fire Company. The Center will hold an Open House for the community from 5:30 PM to 8 PM, with a Christmas train display and Christmas cookies and hot chocolate, so be sure to drop in to warm up and enjoy a sweet treat. It is a great time to show off the Center to your family and friends! The Valley Forge Military Academy and College Choir will sing Christmas carols at the Wayne Train Station at 7:30 PM before the countdown and Tree Lighting Ceremony.

Christmas Cookie Swap

Do you have a Christmas cookie that you love to bake each year or a cookie recipe that has been handed down through generations in your family? Join us for our 2nd Annual Christmas cookie tasting and recipe swap on Tuesday, December 5 at 12: 30 PM.  Sign up with Katie and give her a copy of your recipe by Friday, December 1. Then on the day of the swap bring 2 dozen of your home baked cookies to share. We will have tea, coffee and hot chocolate to enjoy as we sample each other’s delicious treats. Katie will hand out booklets of all of the recipes for everyone to take home and enjoy.

Joel is a hearing instrument specialist who works with different kinds of hearing devices. He is available to clean and check your hearing aids, provide a hearing screening, and answer any questions you might have.

Are you new to sewing and looking for fun and easy sewing projects? Join Keith Geary the first Thursday of each month at 2PM to complete a simple sewing project. On Thursday, November 2, learn how to make Acorn Coasters with fun fall fabric. On Thursday, December 7, Keith will be teaching how to make reusable holiday gift bags, just in time for the holiday gift giving season! Please sign up at the front desk so we have enough materials.

Wreath Decorating Workshop

We are so happy to be hosting the Radnor Memorial Library’s annual holiday wreath decorating workshop on Thursday, December 7 at 7 PM.  Heather Potter, owner of Cottage Flowers in Malvern, will be teaching the workshop. Heather brings fresh wreaths and an abundance of natural decorations (and more) to decorate your wreath.  Class size is limited but we have reserved 5 spots for Wayne Senior Center members with the Library.  The cost is $20 for materials and is due at registration. At 1pm on Tuesday, November 14 and Tuesday, December 12 we will be offering Memoir Writing Workshops with Sara Wenger, MS, MFA.  Participants will experience writing exercises to help write their unique life experiences so they can be passed on to children, grandchildren, friends and others. No prior writing experience is necessary! The class is appropriate for both novice and seasoned writers.  The cost for the workshop is $5.

Annual Thanksgiving Luncheon

Join us on Tuesday, November 21 for the Center’s annual Thanksgiving luncheon.  The luncheon will begin at 11:30 AM and will include a delicious turkey dinner with all the trimmings! We are thrilled that our meal will once again be served by our friends at the Wayne Rotary Club. Don’t forget to thank them for all they do for our community! Thanksgiving at Radnor High School

We have been invited once again to enjoy a FREE Thanksgiving feast with the students of Radnor High School. The students will be serving a traditional turkey meal for seniors in our community on Wednesday, November 15 at 6pm in the Radnor High School cafeteria. There will also be lots of music and dancing. If you are interested in attending, please call the Center by November 8, to place your name on the list.  It is sure to be a wonderful time with the generous young people of Radnor Township!

Talbots Fundraiser

We are excited to be partnering with Talbots located in Paoli Shopping Center for a fundraiser to benefit the Center! On Wednesday, November 15th from 2PM to 7PM, 10% of all purchases made at Talbots in Paoli will be donated to Wayne Senior Center! Wayne Senior Center staff and Board members will also be on hand that day to share information with shoppers about the wonderful work we do at the Center. Start your holiday shopping early and help raise funds for the Center. Be sure to tell your friends!

Memory Cafe

We are teaming up with Arden Courts Memory Care Community to host a Memory Café here at the Center twice a month. A Memory Café is a social gathering and support group specifically for people living with dementia and their caregivers.  Enjoy coffee, conversation, and information on community resources in a safe and supportive environment.  The Memory Café will take place on the following Thursdays from 12:30PM to 1:30PM-November 9 and 30, December 14 and 28.

The presentation will explain new and updated information for the forthcoming Medicare year concerning Original Medicare premiums, Deductibles, Copays, Medicare Advantage Plans and Part D prescription Plan information. Silver Smartphone instructor Joanne Hyndman will be offering two courses for anyone looking for assistance with a smartphone and/or tablet. On Monday, October 2 at 1pm we will offer Beginners iPhone/iPad instruction for $10 per person. We have several iPad’s available here at the Center if you do not own an iPad and are still interested in taking the class. On Wednesday, October 25 at 2pm we will offer Beginners Android Smartphone/Tablet instruction for $10 per person. Please sign up for the course in advance by calling the Center.
