On Wednesday, December 19 at 10:30 AM the group is discussing A Square Meal: A Culinary History of the Great Depression by Jane Ziegelman. A James Beard Award Winning book, A Square Meal provides an in-depth exploration of the greatest food crisis the nation has ever faced—the Great Depression—and how it transformed America’s culinary culture. It examines the impact of economic contraction and environmental disaster on how Americans ate then—and the lessons and insights those experiences may hold for us today.

Holiday Celebration and Chef's Table with Arde

We will be hosting our Annual Holiday Party on Wednesday, December 19. Enjoy a special Chef’s Table holiday meal prepared by Arde, entertainment, and great company with friends! Our meal will be served at 11:30 AM followed by a special musical performance at 12:30 PM.  Seating is limited so please call the Center to reserve your space. The cost will be $5 for members or $10 for non-members.

Pizza and a Movie

On Thursday, December 20 we will be watching The Man Who Invented Christmas, starring Christopher Plummer and Dan Stevens. In 1843 London, author Charles Dickens finds himself in financial trouble after writing three unsuccessful novels in a row. Desperate for a hit, Dickens relies on real-life inspiration and his vivid imagination to bring Ebenezer Scrooge, Tiny Tim and other classic characters to life in "A Christmas Carol," forever changing the holiday season into the celebration known today.

The cost for the movie is $3.

3rd Annual Holiday Cookie Swap

Do you have a Holiday cookie that you love to bake each year or a cookie recipe that has been handed down through generations in your family? Join us for our 3rd Annual Holiday cookie tasting and recipe swap on Friday, December 14 at 12:00 PM.  Sign up with Katie and give her a copy of your recipe by Wednesday, December 12. Then on the day of the swap bring 2 dozen of your home baked cookies to share. We will have tea, coffee and hot chocolate to enjoy as we sample each other’s delicious treats. Katie will hand out booklets of all of the recipes for everyone to take home and enjoy.

We will be offering a Memoir Writing Workshop with Sara Wenger, MS, MFA.  Participants will experience writing exercises to help write their unique life experiences so they can be passed on to children, grandchildren, friends and others. No prior writing experience is necessary! The class is appropriate for both novice and seasoned writers.

Play Reading with Dani

Calling all thespians! Starting in November, Dani will be leading a play reading once a month. We will read the play out loud together by each person taking on a role--or two or three! (Depending on the size of the group.) We are kicking off the program with a landmark in American drama: Our Town by Thornton Wilder; which tells the story of a small town, Grover’s Corners, New Hampshire, in order to tell us the story of every town, the whole world over. The reading of Our Town will take place on Monday, November 12 at 1:00 PM. Then on Monday, December 10 at 1:00 PM we will get into the holiday spirit with A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens. No prior acting experience necessary and copies of the play will be provided.

Joel Lampley from Hear Again Now will be here on Thursday, December 6 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM. Joel is a hearing instrument specialist who works with different kinds of hearing devices. He is available to clean and check your hearing aids, provide a hearing screening, and answer any questions you might have.

A representative from Senator Daylin Leach’s office will be available at the Center on Wednesday, November 7 and Wednesday, December 5 from 10:30 AM to 11:30 AM. The representative will have information about state agencies and be available to process applications and photographs for SEPTA Key senior ID card. They will also discuss current affairs and share updates on state issues.

Holiday Open House and Wayne Tree Lighting

On Friday, November 30, the Wayne Business Association will be holding the Wayne Christmas Celebration.  There will be carolers strolling the streets of Wayne, winter carriage rides, face painting, and crafts for kids at the Radnor Fire Company. The Center will hold an Open House for the community from 5:00 PM to 8 PM, with a Christmas train display and Christmas cookies and hot chocolate, so be sure to drop in to warm up and enjoy a sweet treat. It is a great time to show off the Center to your family and friends! The Valley Forge Military Academy and College Choir will sing Christmas carols at the Wayne Train Station at 7:00 PM before the countdown and Tree Lighting Ceremony.

Community Thanksgiving at Radnor High School

We have been invited once again to enjoy a free Thanksgiving feast with the students of Radnor High School. The students will be serving a traditional turkey meal for older adults in our community on Wednesday, November 14 at 6pm in the Radnor High School cafeteria. There will also be lots of music and dancing. The presentation will explain new and updated information for the forthcoming Medicare year concerning Original Medicare premiums, Deductibles, Copays, Medicare Advantage Plans and Part D prescription Plan information. Fall Foliage 2019 Cruise Info Session

On Thursday, November 8 at 10:30 AM, Megan Ritter of Grand American Tours will be here to describe our next trip adventure, Canada & New England Fall Foliage Cruise on the Royal Caribbean Grandeur of the Seas! The trip will take place October 3 through October 12, 2019 and includes stops in Boston, Massachusetts, Portland, Maine, Bar Harbour, Maine, St. John, New Brunswick, and Halifax, Nova Scotia. This will be a wonderful trip exploring beautiful autumnal landscapes. Megan will have information on all of the sights and explain how the trip works.
