Beginners Line Dancing

Our line dancing class is going back to basics! Learn the basic steps of this popular dance form--also a great way to exercise!! The first half of the class is devoted to teaching the basic steps and simple dances for first-time or beginner dancers. The second half of the class is dancing! A Memory Café is a social gathering and support group specifically for people living with dementia and their caregivers.  Enjoy coffee, conversation, and information on community resources in a safe and supportive environment.  The Memory Café will take place on the following Thursdays from 12:30PM to 1:30PM-September 14 and 28, October 12 and 26.

Silver Smartphone instructor Joanne Hyndman will be offering two courses for anyone looking for assistance with a smartphone and/or tablet. On Monday, October 2 at 1pm we will offer Beginners iPhone/iPad instruction for $10 per person. We have several iPad’s available here at the Center if you do not own an iPad and are still interested in taking the class. On Wednesday, October 25 at 2pm we will offer Beginners Android Smartphone/Tablet instruction for $10 per person. Please sign up for the course in advance by calling the Center.

Joel is a hearing instrument specialist who works with different kinds of hearing devices. He is available to clean and check your hearing aids, provide a hearing screening, and answer any questions you might have.

Memoir Workshop

On Tuesday, September 19 at 1pm we will be offering a Memoir Writing Workshop with Sara Wenger, MS, MFA.  Participants will experience writing exercises to help write their unique life experiences so they can be passed on to children, grandchildren, friends and others. No prior writing experience is necessary! The class is appropriate for both novice and seasoned writers.  The cost for the workshop is $5. Registration is required by Friday, September 15.

Mind Matters Lecture

On Monday, June 19 at 10:45 AM we will watch Jim Thorpe and His Impact on PA Native Americans. James Francis Thorpe was an American athlete and Olympic gold medalist. A member of the Sac and Fox Nation, Thorpe became the first Native American to win a gold medal for his home country. Considered one of the most versatile athletes of modern sports, he won Olympic gold medals in the 1912 pentathlon and decathlon, and played American football (collegiate and professional), professional baseball, and basketball.

Delaware County Senior Games

The Delaware County Senior Games will be held Monday, June 12 through Friday, June 23. Events will be held in bocce, bowling, shuffleboard, golf, billiards, horseshoes, table tennis, pickleball, Wii bowling, track and field, and more! You can participate as an athlete or as a volunteer. Volunteers can serve as timekeepers, registrars, starters, judges, award presenters and organizers. If you need more information or would like to participate in the games as an athlete or volunteer, please contact Lisa. Registration forms are available at the front desk at the Center.

Life Story Bookmaking Workshop

Local mixed media artist Linnie Greenberg and her partner Virginia Conover will be here to teach two exciting art workshops! On Thursday, June 1 at 10:30AM they will present a FREE Collage workshop, all supplies included. Then on Thursday, June 8 at 1pm they will present a FREE Life Story Bookmaking class, with all supplies included. History of Westover Bird Sanctuary

During the 1920’s,Westover Bird Sanctuary in Devon was the site of the Pennsylvania Fireworks Display Company, Inc.  Gail Cappelli and Michele Hawk will speak about the “History of Westover Bird Sanctuary” and the earthshaking events that occurred on April 3, 1930, when a series of explosions destroyed the factory.
